Happy Duck House Reviews
Hands down one of the best Peking duck in the 626 area. The downside is they really inflated prices over the last few year (my duck with soup came out to $90~). And just don't have high expectations for friendly attentive service.
Came by for some dinner with family, and was able to make a reservation since somebody else canceled. Of course we ordered the Peking roast duck, eel sticky rice, vegetables, spare ribs, and duck soup. The food came out pretty quick and the food was really tasty. They have groups come in different groups so booking a reservation is tough unless it's a weekday or off hours. There's plenty of parking out front which is nice. Service was good, they also speak Chinese. Ambiance seems a bit older, but the food is pretty good. The veggies were a bit too oily though so just something to note.
Best Peking duck in my part of town! Must call and order ahead ! (It helps if you speak Chinese.) Our friends invited us and she made the reservation. When you call to book a reservation , that's when you preorder a duck. Same preorder process if you want a lobster. (Usually 4 lbs and up, price fluctuates with market price) Duck is served with julienned green onion and cucumbers along with house style hoisen sauce and thin crepes . The Crispy skin and duck meat are sliced for easy assembly. I like to get a single crepe and drop some sauce on it . Then load it with slivers of green onion & cucumber , some duck meat and two duck skins . Wrap into a roll and ENJOY! Mmmmmm good ! Our Lobster tonight was 4 1/2 lbs . Made with ginger and green onions . It is served on a bed of oyster sautéed noodles. If you are a lobster fan , you'll really enjoy this. We also got Mapo tofu ( mild ) but was still kinda spicy. Tasty but spicy . Broccoli beef was fairly standard but, the beef was super tender . Tried the Xiao long bao ( juicy dumplings) here too! We thought they tasted better than the popular franchise ( DTF). The sauce is a vinaigrette with soy sauce and ginger. Service was great . Although we don't speak Chinese , our server was kind and polite. Luckily, our friends did most of the talking . We also enjoyed fermented rice egg soup with mini black sesame balls for dessert. A perfect ending to a wonderful dinner .
Great for a family dinner but remember to make reservations. We celebrated my daughter's bday at Happy Duck House. Party of 6. The restaurant is located in the same plaza as FedEx and a bunch of other restaurants, so finding a parking spot could take awhile. At the time of reservation I was offered a 5:30pm or 7:30pm slot and asked if I wanted "combo set or separate order." I responded with "combo" as I wasn't sure what "separate" entailed. I received a photo of the "Combo" section of their menu by text from the lady I made the reservation with (see photo). I later asked my sister in law to call the restaurant to inquire if we needed to commit to a choice (she speaks Mandarin) as I prefer we select other dishes while we are dining. She explained to me that if we let Happy Duck know ahead of time we wanted a combo, they would have a better idea of how many to prepare for. Alternatively we can order combo or separate (a la carte) once seated as well. We arrived at the restaurant for our 5:30pm reservation. The place was already busy. We ordered our Peking duck (3 dishes), spicy beef, noodles, steamed fish and fried rice. The Peking duck was excellent, on par with Ji Rong without the long drive. All other dishes were generously portioned and delicious. We all decided we'd definitely return for the Peking duck!
Very very limited seating inside restaurant. You can call to make a reservation before arriving, otherwise if they are at full capacity you may not be able to dine in when you arrive. I don't recommend coming on a hot day, it's really stuffy inside. Their AC is on but isn't strong. We did the combo set for 4-5 people. Felt like plenty of food for 5 people, 6 dishes total. Included 3 Peaking Roasted Duck dishes which were Duck Wraps, Stir Fried Bean Sprout w/ Duck Meat and Duck Bone Soup. Along with Appetizer Combo Platter, Fillet Mignon Cube w/ Black Pepper Sauce and Sautéed Shrimp. Duck Wraps- came with traditional Chinese crepe (jian bing) to wrap your duck skin and meat in. Don't forget to spread hoisin sauce on your crepe first before adding everything; green onion, cucumbers, duck skin& meat. Sooo good, doesn't feel to heavy at all compared to when it's served with buns. Appetizer Combo Platter was refreshing. It had cold cut chicken and duck with celery sticks and wood ear fungus. Eel Rice Cake- was so good, sticky rice was just right and so flavorful. Eel was tender and fatty.
Peking duck has crispy skin and served with thin crepe style wrappers. So good. Roasted Eel (unagi) over steamed sticky rice. So tasty. Stir fried beef with tomato. So much flavor. Friendly service. Not a huge dining area but it doesn't feel cramped. Casual spot with great food.
We were craving peking duck, so I googled and found Happy Duck as the closest to my house. Free parking inside a plaza, and it can be difficult to find a spot. This medium-sized restaurant was packed full of people on a Friday afternoon. I suggest you call first and make sure they have seating as well as peking duck availability. We ordered a roasted peking duck to-go, and it took about 30 minutes. I have to say it was worth the wait! I didn't know what to expect and thought that it would come as chopped with bones in it. I was delighted to see that the duck meat and skin were sliced already! The meat was juicy and tender, clean tasting, and the skin was crispy and fatty. It came with thin wraps instead of the usual bun, which I like better. It also came with sliced green onions and housing sauce. I had peking ducks before and this, by far, is my favorite! The quality and freshness are unmatched, and I couldn't stop eating it. It's on the pricey side and we spent about $76 including tax. Yup, I will be back to try their other food selections. Highly recommended!
It was order days prior of the Thanksgiving. I actually got their 4 hours earlier than scheduled pick up time. They accommodated and allowed me to pick up the food earlier. The staff was friendly and I had no issue. This was my first visit and I had no prior dine-in experience, so I will follow up with another review. The duck was slightly on the dry side. Nonetheless, it was still delicious. For this particular experience. It gets a 4.0 out of 5.
